Trust. Love. Die

February 27, 2023

Sermon summary:

1. Trust the invisible God. Proverbs 3:5–6 It's not easy to trust. We want to see and feel. It's hard to go by faith.

Free will battles against God's sovereignty. Examples of people who trusted God: Abram; Moses; David; Mary; and Peter. Trusting God brings miracles into our lives.

Proverbs 3:5–6. It's easy to trust when things go your way. When it doesn't, you have to hold onto the fact that God is kind/loving/caring, etc.

Mark 4. Jesus was in a storm. There are three responses you can have during the storms of life (you can jump out of the boat, or ask Jesus, 'Don't you care?', or go find a cushion (reminding yourself who God is: good, just, fair etc) and draw closer to God.

2. Love with extraordinary love. Luke 6:27–30 Do something wonderful for those who mistreat you (MSG). Your physical and spiritual family test you. Live with an extraordinary love. They may not apologise the right way. Everyone believes they're doing the best they can. Whatever is in our toolbox (anger, irritation, lashing out) is what we use to respond to each other. When we live in love, our brains pour serotonin into our lives. Live in a state of love rather than fear.

3. Die to self.
